Our Mission

To Stop Menstrual Poverty and Stigma. Period.

About Us

The Lotus is a non-profit organization focused on menstrual equity, striving to end period poverty and stigma and empower all women and menstruators. We write menstrual health curriculum, collaborate with communities to create localized solutions to advocate for period poverty, and partner with middle schools in China to distribute menstrual products to young menstruators in need.

It all began with a charity postcard sale hosted by Scoot, a youth influencer on Chinese TikTok. Later, with the funds gathered from the sale, Scoot Wang, Cheri Chen, and Bell Sun together founded The Lotus, distributing menstrual hygiene products in rural China. In 2022, The Lotus partnered with 4 middle schools in China to set up menstrual hygiene corners in the school’s bathrooms and periodically distribute products to lift the burden of “paying for period” for 1000+ young women. So far, we’ve set up 3 college chapters to incubate on-campus and localized projects to ensure menstrual equity.

At The Lotus, We Believe:

  • Menstrual health is a BASIC human right

  • Equal access to clean and high-quality hygiene products should be granted to all menstruators

  • All people who menstruate should be supported and their autonomy over their periods and bodies should be respected
